Our History

The Garden State Association of Christian Schools (GSACS) was founded on March 25, 1977 by Rev. Alfred E. Monson, who was a pioneer in Christian education in New Jersey. Under his leadership, he rallied Christian schools all throughout New Jersey to work together. He firmly believed that “In this day when Christian schools are so important to our Christian families, it is imperative that we band together in common purpose that each school may be strengthened and protected by our united front.”

On the sixteenth anniversary of the association, Monson remembered when the association was founded:

In the fall of 1976, I invited a number of Pastors and Administrators to Victory Christian School in Williamstown where I was the administrator. We met two or three times with our meetings going into 1977. The official formation of the GSACS took place on March 25, 1977 at Victory Christian School. Charter members included: Hackensack Christian Schools (now Bergen County Christian Academy), Parsippany Christian School, Saddle Brook Christian School, and Victory Christian School.
