Story About GSACS
Garden State Association of Christian Schools

Who We Are

Founded in 1977, the Garden State Association of Christian Schools (GSACS) is an educational association established to aid in promoting, maintaining, and improving the moral, spiritual, and academic standards of Christian schools in New Jersey.

GSACS members have access to quality programs for teacher certification and school accreditation. Members may take advantage of health and life insurance, student accident, dental, and liability insurance, 403(b)-retirement plans, and other excellent benefits. Students participate in the numerous competition opportunities the association provides in athletics and fine arts on the state and national level. The association provides outstanding opportunities for its constituents at the annual Education Conference, Teacher Orientations, Consultation Services, and various other staff-enhancing events

The Garden State Association of Christian Schools is a direct affiliate of the American Association of Christian Schools – which is the federation of state associations who work in harmony with the national association in providing member services. AACS consists of forty state, regional, and international associations working together to provide legislative oversight, to promote high quality Christian education programs, to encourage the goal of producing Christlike young people, and to provide related institutional and personnel services to our constituents. AACS is unique in that it has the strength of a national coalition of Bible-believing Christian schools with the practicality of locally-controlled state associations.

Member schools are provided with the opportunity to participate in Academic Competition, Athletic Competition, Annual Education Conference, Assistance in Starting Schools, Consultant Services, Legal Assistance, Spelling Bee, Student Leadership Conference, Teacher Orientation, and much more.

Why Join the GSACS?

We understand the unique needs and situations of Christian schools in New Jersey.

Operating a Christian school in New Jersey is different from operating one in South Carolina, California, or Colorado. We are now the most densely populated state—more densely populated than India—and land values are skyrocketing. We’re a “barrel tapped at both ends” as Ben Franklin once described New Jersey, with liberal New York and Philadelphia to our north and south. We understand New Jersey and can help you deal with our complex laws and society

We maintain an office in New Jersey that can answer your questions on a daily basis.

We’re the only association that has such an office. Our staff includes a director, a secretary, and an administrative assistant. We have a lawyer who can answer questions and give advice on how a certain action may be treated in court or by the law.

We monitor legislation coming out of both Trenton and Washington.

Together, we can respond to legislation that would interfere with our freedom to operate our schools and churches. Recently, for example, we testified in a State Senate Committee about a bill that would allow municipalities to tax parsonages, school buildings and other religious facilities. The bill was killed in committee. Through AACS, we have a full-time lobbyist in Washington, D.C.

We offer the Iowa Assessment Testing for grades K-12, at discounted prices.

These nationally recognized tests help provide you with information about how well your students are doing both nationally and compared to other Christian schools. For parents looking for accountability, here is an excellent resource.

We offer opportunities for teacher certification and voluntary improvement.

One of the best ways to keep the bureaucrats out of our schools is to offer our own certification program where your school puts on seminars, under your control, and then gives C.E.U.’s recognized by the American Association of Christian Schools, with whom we are affiliated.

We are a clearinghouse on the best information on how to operate a Christian school.

By banding together, we can find out what works and what doesn’t, and pass that along to our schools. We have access to lawyers, accountants, and other experts who can answer your questions and steer you in the right direction.

Christian Higher Education

Through our AACS Honor Society, we help identify outstanding high school students, information that can be used by our Christian colleges for scholarships and other opportunities. AACS now offers training towards a masters degree in Christian education both in Kansas City and in sites around the country. We also offer a $300 scholarship to a GSAC’s teacher, annually, who is working on a graduate degree.

We offers a number of publications.

The Journal for Christian Education, a full-color magazine published five times a year, addresses issues relevant to our schools. Legal updates by AACS lawyer Steve Cummings gives us in-depth information as on how to protect our schools from lawsuits. The AACS Directory, provided only to member schools, is often identified as one of our most appreciated services. It lists complete data on every AACS/GSAC’s school and includes a resource section that identifies a wide range of educational services.

We sponsor many student activities.

Perhaps the most popular services we offer are our student activities. Our annual calendar includes a soccer tournament, a basketball tournament, a choral festival, an academic competition, spelling bee, track meet and more. No other association provides such activities right here in the Garden State. When your students participate, they get to compete in a much larger arena, test new-found skills, and meet the best and brightest both here and at our national competition in South Carolina. And small schools can participate (and have winners) as well. Last year, a school with two high school students won awards in art competition.

Member support services

These include national and regional survey results, disaster relief support, professional enrichment material, educational consultation services, employment listings, and more.

We offer financial savings.

In addition to our reasonable membership fee of you can get discounted rates on student accident insurance, term life, cancer, accidental death, and health insurance. AACS also has affinity credit cards and new products are being developed. As a member, you will be offered other discounted services through the year.

We encourage local control.

We provide assistance when you need it, but without interference. We respect every ministry’s independence.

GSACS is conservative and Christian.

We are both conservative and Christian, and hold to the old-fashioned standards that served our forefathers as well.
